Polaris UTVs are some of the best on the market today. However, that doesn't mean they can get by without standard maintenance. Like all UTVs, they incur a lot of wear and tear and thus need to be kept up in the proper manner.

What you might question, though, is what Polaris maintenance entails. We're going to get into that question, discussing everything you need to know about replacement Polaris parts and their upkeep.

Without further ado, here is your Polaris UTV maintenance guide!

Maintain the Air Filter

Every Polaris UTV is equipped with an air filter. The purpose of this air filter is to prevent dirt and other debris from making their way into the engine. As you might expect, over time, this air filter becomes dirtier and dirtier.

This is why after every 50 hours or so of driving, you need to replace your UTV air filter. If you don't change your air filter in a timely enough manner, your UTV's engine won't be able to intake adequate amounts of air. This will result in poor and inefficient performance.

Fortunately, Polaris air filters are fairly inexpensive and can be replaced quite easily. If you need help replacing your air filter, you can call your local UTV repair mechanic.

Replace the Brakes

Just like with your car, truck, or SUV, you'll need to eventually replace the brakes on your Polaris UTV. If you don't do this in a timely enough manner, your UTV will struggle to stop on time. This could result in a serious accident, the likes of which could lead to extreme injury.

Now, how often should you change your brakes? You can determine this by looking out for specific signs.

Does your brake feel spongy upon use? If so, you should think about changing the pads.

Do your brakes squeak when being applied? Again, it's probably time to replace the brake pad.

Do your brakes feel less reactive and take longer to bring your UTV to a stop? Again, a brake pad replacement is probably required. At this point, you might even need to replace the rotors and calipers.

Bring your Polaris to a licensed UTV mechanic. They'll inspect the brakes to determine what replacements you need.

Keep an Eye on the Tires

Like car tires, UTV tires need to be replaced every once in a while. This is because they wear down over time and thus lose traction on the ground. If you don't change your tires in a timely manner, your UTV will become more and more likely to spin out of control.

Now, how do you determine when a tire change is needed? Look for abnormalities in your tires.

Are they cracking in certain areas? If so, a replacement is probably needed. Does the tread on the tires measure less than 6/32 of an inch? Again, a replacement is probably needed.

In addition to replacing your tires, you should also rotate them. It's wise to do this at every oil change, as it will ensure that your tires are all wearing down at an even pace.

Change the Oil

You'll obviously need to change the oil in your UTV. This should be done every 6,000 miles or so. If you've gone over a year since changing your oil, you should change it, regardless of how far you've driven since your last oil change.

Note that if you fail to change your oil in a timely manner, your UTV's engine will incur undue wear and tear. If you wait far too long, the engine could seize entirely. This would require an array of replacement Polaris parts, the likes of which would cost you thousands of dollars.

Lubricate the Suspension

A key component of maintaining your Polaris UTV is lubricating its suspension. Polaris utilizes effective but delicate components in its suspension systems. If these are not adequately lubricated, they'll wear down prematurely, leading to costly repairs.

At a minimum, you should do this twice a year. However, if you drive your Polaris frequently, you should lubricate its suspension at least once every 2 months.

Mind the Exhaust

You'll also want to pay attention to the exhaust system. Exhaust components can wear out fairly easily. When they do, they can greatly reduce the overall performance of the UTV.

In particular, you should pay attention to the tailpipe. This will become filled with grime over time. As such, you'll need to wash it every few months.

If your vehicle continues to struggle despite your attempts at cleaning the tailpipe, you might need to replace the entire exhaust system. Fortunately, you can buy Polaris parts online, including exhaust components.
